Updated: Sep 8, 2023

On August 20, the Spanish team won the 2023 women's football world championship. The expectations and enthusiasm in Spain were incredible: almost six million viewers – a 67% audience share according to official data – watched the final match.

The team had possession of the ball in all matches and won with recognizable and beautiful football.

The players were received as heroines both in Madrid and in their cities and towns of origin. Among the attendees were a large number of women from different generations. Their victory collapses many stereotypes and many girls will have them as a reference.

You may not know that two of the players are from Seville: Olga Carmona and Irene Guerrero.

Irene plays for Club Atlético de Madrid and Olga for Real Madrid, although both started with teams from Seville. Olga was the one who scored the decisive goal for the victory of the team, but the team captain had to bite the bullet on Sunday when she found out that her father had passed away.

In Seville they have been honored in different ways, here you have one of them. The projection of your image in one of the emblematic buildings of the city: La Torre del Oro.
