Víctor Jara: 50th anniversary of his death

Víctor Jara was a Chilean singer-songwriter who can be described as one of the most important in the Spanish-speaking world. After the coup d'état perpetrated by General Pinochet in 1973, which overthrew Salvador Allende, he was arrested, tortured for days and shot dead in the "Estadio de Chile" on 16 September 50 years ago. That stadium is today called "Estadio Victor Jara".

Victor Jara was politically committed and his songs denounce the situation of the underprivileged classes. He also recovered and covered many popular songs, incorporating the use of Andean instruments.

Perhaps his best known song is "Te recuerdo Amanda" (I remember you Amanda). The video serves as a remembrance and tribute

Victor, from the place where those who do not die are, continue to inspire us to have a fairer world.
